The Peregrine Charities Triathlon is a USA Triathlon sanctioned event. Race participants are required to be annual members of USAT or are required to purchase a one-day permit at the time of registration. Cost for one-day permit is $10 for adults. Youth ages 17 and under receive an annual membership for $5.

George Wyth State Park is located on Highway 218 within the Waterloo-Cedar Falls metropolitan area in Northeast Iowa. Take Highway 218 Exit 185 and follow signs into the park. Parking will be clearly marked; please do not park in the grass. Check in, transition area and race start will take place at George Wyth Lake.

A total prize purse of $4,975 will be awarded at the 2008 Peregrine Charities Triathlon. Cash prizes will be awarded to the overall top three male and top three female finishers. To be eligible for this award, you must complete your registration as an elite participant. Elites will comprise the first swim wave and will not be eligible for age group awards.

Elite overall male and female prizes:
1st Place = $1,000 & medal
2nd Place = $500 & medal
3rd Place = $100 & medal
Age, Clydesdale/Athena, Novice, and Relay Prizes:
1st Place = Cash prize & medal
2nd Place = medal
3rd Place= medal

All finishers will receive a 2008 Peregrine Charities Triathlon race cap.

Relay teams (male, female, and coed) are welcome at the Peregrine Charities Triathlon. Each team member must register individually and pick up his/her own race packet. Relay team members will share a timing chip/strap. The biker and runner must attach the chip/strap to their ankle before leaving the transition area.

Race packets must be picked up before race day. Packet pickup will take place on Saturday, September 27, 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. at George Wyth State Park. A meal will be provided free to participants and for at a limited cost for friends and family.

Athletes must pick up their own packet, showing a photo ID and their USAT membership card. There will be no exceptions. This applies to individual relay team members, as well.

Please have your bike checked at the Bike Tech tent before parking in the Transition Area. They will inspect your bike for USAT compliance and install your bike number. The Transition Area will be open Saturday for bike parking. The area will be secured overnight and guarded by a professional security team.

While picking up your packet, enjoy displays and demonstrations from local businesses and national companies focusing on triathlon, nutrition, and fitness. Sign up for door prizes, have fun, and gear up for race day!

Timing services will be conducted by Pickle Events using the ChampionChip® timing system.

Chips will be distributed at check-in on the morning of the event. Race participants are responsible for returning their chip to volunteers at the finish line. A $30 charge will be assessed to the athlete if the chip is not returned.

Registration fee is $75 per person, $65 if a current USAT member 18 or older. Registration is $70 if a USAT member under 18 years old. This triathlon is a fundraising event to support Peregrine Charities; $25 of your registration fee is tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Elite Division — This category is open to all participants that have a realistic chance of winning the race. These participants will comprise the first swim wave and will be eligible to win overall cash prizes, but not age group awards. Participants must register themselves as elite participants to be included in this category.

Clydesdale and Athena Divisions — Men weighing 200 pounds or more and women weighing 150 or more are able, but not required, to participate in the Clydesdale/Athena divisions. To do so, you must indicate this group on your registration form. Entrants in this category are eligible for Clydesdale or Athena group awards, but not age group awards.

Novice – This category is for anyone new to triathlons who wish to be in a less competitive division. Entrants in this category are eligible for Novice group awards, but not age category awards.

Age Categories: 16-17, 18-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85+

If the swim portion of the race is cancelled due to inclement weather (i.e. heavy rain, lightning), the event will be a 3.0 mile run – 22 mile bike – 3 mile run duathlon.

Refund Policy — Sorry, but registration is not refundable or transferable in the event of cancellation. However, if the event is cancelled, $60 of your registration fee is a tax-deductible contribution. You will receive a receipt from Peregrine Charities.

Ramada Hotel and Convention Center, Waterloo, is this year’s host hotel. Rooms are available at $79.00 + tax per night. Maximum occupancy is four people. Shuttle service to and from George Wyth Park will be provided.

Proceeds of this event will benefit Peregrine Charities. $60 of your registration fee goes directly to support medical research for rare pediatric diseases and provide assistance with children’s hospitalization and medical treatment. $25 of your registration fee is tax deductible, as allowed by law.

Peregrine Charities grants funds to Eastern Iowa hospitals to assist with their care of children and to fund ground-breaking research investigating origins, treatments, and cures for rare childhood diseases. The ultimate goal is to provide children with comfort, dignity, and hope during difficult times.
